Sacré-Cœur hours at a glance
The basilica is open every day of the year from 06:30 to 22:30. There are no regular rest days. On certain feast days and prayer evenings it can stay open later or change its program, and on the first Thursday of the month it closes at 24:00 instead of 22:30. That later closing is for prayer, not for evening sightseeing.
The dome is a separate visit with its own hours and its own ticket, sold at the site. Entry to the church itself is free and needs no reservation. If you want to stand under the mosaic and also climb for the view, plan the dome first, because its last entry is earlier than the church closing time. If you are also visiting the cathedral on the Île de la Cité, its schedule is different, and the Notre-Dame opening hours have their own guide.

Basilica, dome and crypt hours compared
Times for 2026. Seasons, maintenance and weather can change them.
| Part of the visit | Hours | Cost | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basilica | 06:30–22:30 daily | Free | No ticket or reservation. Later closing is possible on feast days and prayer evenings. |
| Dome | 10:15–17:30, last entry 17:00 | €8 from age 16, €5 up to age 15 | Bought on site, no lift. Hours may run from 10:00 to 18:30 on some days, so confirm on the day. |
| Crypt | Guided route, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday at 16:00 | Free, donation welcome | About 40 minutes, in French, no routes in July and August. |
| Lift entrance | About 08:30 to 18:30 or 19:00 | Free | At 35 rue du Chevalier de la Barre. Closing is at 18:30 or 19:00, so ask at the door. |
| Funicular to the hill | 06:00–00:45 daily | €2.55 single | Not part of the basilica, but it runs longer than the church is open. |
For most visitors: come between 06:30 and 10:30 for the church, or after 17:00. Do the dome in the morning, when the last entry is far away and the line is shorter.

The basilica is a place of perpetual adoration. Prayer has continued day and night since 1 August 1885. After the doors close, registered night adorers carry the prayer on, and you need to sign up in advance to take part. The evening closing is 22:30 for visitors. The night prayer that follows is for registered adorers.
Crowds and quiet hours
The steps outside fill up long before the doors do.
Busiest: 10:30 to 17:00
This is when visitor numbers are highest. Allow roughly 10 to 15 minutes to get in as a rule of thumb.
Quiet: early morning and evening
The church is calmer after 17:00 and before 10:30. The forecourt is also less busy then, though it is never empty.
The climb up
Count the outdoor steps into your timing. The Montmartre funicular saves most of the climb and runs from 06:00 to 00:45. Getting there lists the metro stops.
Dress, silence and photos
The basilica is a church with a living prayer life, so a few rules apply.
Dress and silence
Wear appropriate clothing, keep your voice low and do not take phone calls. Respect the prayer areas in the front of the nave.
Photos
Photos are restricted inside the basilica, above all in the nave and during services. Ask the staff what applies before you take any, and never photograph during a service. Professional shoots need permission beforehand.
Bag checks
Expect a security check at the entrance. Travel light and leave large bags at your hotel.
Accessible entrance
A rear entrance at 35 rue du Chevalier de la Barre has a lift to the basilica. There is no lift to the dome. The dome page has the details of the climb.
