Montmartre food tour at a glance

A Montmartre food tour is a guided walk with tastings along the way. The classic version centres on bread, cheese and wine, and the guide explains how they go together. The products are French and typical of the area, but none of them is exclusive to Montmartre.

Tastings are short stops between stretches of walking, so the hill, the cobbles and the steps are part of the tour. If you want a walk without food, see the Montmartre walking tour page.

For most visitors, the shorter cheese and wine walk fits around a basilica visit. Choose the 3-hour walk if the food is the main reason for the tour.

What the gourmet walk includes and what it does not

The 3-hour walk includes eight tastings. Hotel pickup is not included. Personal purchases and tips are not included either.

If you have dietary needs, tell the operator at least 48 hours before the walk. Do not assume that a tour can handle allergies. Ask the operator directly and get the answer in writing before you book.

The group is small, with a maximum of six people, so it can be fully booked in busy weeks. Check availability for your date before you plan the rest of the day around it.

What to check before you book

The same words can mean different tours.

Meeting point and finish

Check where the tour starts and where it ends. A route on the hill means a climb, so find out how much of it is uphill.

Language and group size

Check that the tour runs in your language on your date. Group sizes differ, and small groups fill up quickly.

Drinks and tastings

Look at how many tastings are listed and whether water, wine or other drinks are included. Compare the number of tastings, not only the length.

Cancellation and fees

Terms differ by operator. Read the cancellation terms and check the total price before you pay.

Fit it into your day

Food tours work best as a half-day plan.

Before or after the basilica

The basilica is free and open daily from 06:30 to 22:30. The dome climb costs extra, runs from 10:15 to 17:30 with last entry at 17:00, and can close in bad weather.

Getting up the hill

Abbesses (line 12), Anvers (line 2) and Pigalle (lines 2 and 12) are the usual metro stops. The funicular costs €2.55 for a single ticket in 2026.

Wear walking shoes

The streets are steep and partly cobbled. Comfortable shoes matter more than anything else you pack.
